Our Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE:

BBC recognizes three sacraments of the universal Church:  baptism, the eucharist, and holy marriage. Each of these are symbols of a spiritual reality between Christ, the believer, and the fellowship of the local church. Although none of these convey grace unto salvation, all of them do convey spiritual grace to the obedient believer.

Baptism expresses the transformation of a believer from death to life.  The word baptism is a transliteration of the word baptisma.  All believers are to participate in baptism (Matthew 28:18-20). We practice baptism by immersion as it symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ as expressed in Romans 6:3,4 and Colossians 2:12.

The Eucharist expresses the fellowship of a believer, in the context of the church, in the life of Christ.  The word eucharist is a transliteration of the Greek word eucharisto which means “to give thanks graciously.” The practice of the early Church was to partake weekly; for this reason, we regularly share in the Lord’s Supper. All believers are to participate in the eucharist (1 Corinthians 11:23-29; Acts 20:7).

Marriage expresses the relationship of Christ and His Church that will culminate in the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:7-10). Not all believers participate in marriage, but to those to whom it is given, it is a sacred mystery (1 Corinthians 7:1-9).  As such, we hold to the definition of marriage instituted by God, at Creation, of one man and one woman until death (Genesis 2:18-25). This was reaffirmed by Christ and the Apostles (Matthew 19; Ephesians 5).
